Urokoro is a cozy ryokan located near Temple 17, just west of Tokushima City. For many pilgrims, it serves as a welcome pause between the tough mountain climb to Temple 12 (Shōsanji) and the flatter urban stretch ahead. The inn is set in a quiet residential area, offering both traditional Japanese rooms and modern comforts.
Dinner is a highlight here – carefully prepared seasonal dishes with local ingredients, served in a warm, homey dining area. Breakfast is also available and can be adjusted to suit early departures. The staff are attentive and accustomed to the needs of pilgrims, including luggage shipping, washing machine access, and dietary requests.
The building is compact but clean and thoughtfully maintained. A small bath is available for soaking tired legs, and the communal space encourages relaxed conversation among travelers. For foreign speakers, communication is easy thanks to clear signage and the staff’s experience with international guests.
Advance booking is recommended, as the lodge has a limited number of rooms.
