Shiromine‑ji sits peacefully on the western peak of Shiro‑mine in Kagawa, offering sweeping views of the Seto Inland Sea. Founded in 815, the temple is said to have been established after Chishō Daishi was guided by a vision and carved the principal statue – Senjū Kannon – from a spiritually significant driftwood. Two legendary stories mark the temple: one of Emperor Sutoku’s secret tomb and historic memorials, and another of the gentle tengu Sagami‑bō secretly aiding a young attendant. The grounds include historic gates, halls, statues of Zodiac guardians, and the lone imperial mausoleum on the pilgrimage. Natural highlights like Chigo Falls and seasonal blooms: cherry blossoms in spring, hydrangea in summer, and autumn foliage make it a serene and visually rich stop on the route.
