Pilgrim Hut No.18 Marugame Jyoken

General Description: Another hut which is actually two separate structures can be found 3.3 kilometres from Doryuji (T77), along the route to Goshoji (T78). It is located on Highway 21 northwest of Marugame Castle (Inui).

Marugame is the largest producer of fans in Japan, and the shape of the hut is inspired by that of a fan.

7 Apr 2023 Comments: Two small shelters together in the heavily built up area of Marugame beside Highway 21 just before it merges with Highway 33. The highway is busy. There are a number of hotels and convenience stores within 500m of the hut. Walking in the “normal” direction the first hut encountered has a small bench seat butting on to a back wall. Otherwise the hut is quite open and exposed. The second hut has a similarly small right angle seat with two walls and would be more sheltered from the wind. There is also additional seating nearby under the trees. Depending on the direction of the sun the interior of both huts may be exposed to strong sunlight in hot weather, though both keep the rain off adequately (refer to the pictures taken during my visit in April 2023, which show dry concrete floors, while rain is actually falling). Marugame Railway station is 600m to the north.
