Pilgrim Hut No.39 NASA

General Description:

The hut name "NASA" is from the local place name "Nasa" and has nothing to do with the U.S.A.

The hut is located at the entrance of the “Fureai no Yado Yuyu” NASA Hotel 「遊遊 NASA ふれあい の 宿」 along Route 55, 28.2 km from Yakuoji (T23). It is on the left hand side of the highway (east) just after leaving Kainan.

The shape and colour of the hut is based on a "large eel" that inhabits the nearby Kaifu River.

This hut is in a carpark alongside busy Highway 55. It has half height walls around the circumference of the hut. These walls are slightly taller on the highway side than on the carpark side, possibly in an attempt to cut down on direct noise from highway traffic. Since the hut is open, it would still be a noisy site with highway traffic, access to the hotel and drivers taking a break in the carpark.

The hut is large with a distinctive oval cross-section roof. Due to this, slanting sunlight or rain from the east or west would be more likely to enter the hut than if it had a lower flat or standard roof. The extra sun would cause it to be a more pleasant resting location on clear days during the cooler seasons.

On the other side of the road there is a shrine.
